The Toronto-Dominion Bank offers quite an array of credit cards. In the cash back category however, none stands out more than the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite, and in this article we’ll show you why. This card can be a great asset for a big family, with its 3% cash back earn rate on groceries, gas and recurring bill payments. Its welcome bonus of 6% cashback for three months is sweet, as is not having to pay an annual fee for the first year.

We don’t recommend the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card: If you’re not looking for an expensive card, although you don’t have to pay the annual fee for the first year, starting the second year you’ll have to spend $4,000 on the card just to break even. For another more affordable option, you might look into the TD Cash Back Visa, or take a peek at our suggestions at the end.

#1 Welcome Bonus
The TD Cash Back Visa Infinite offers a 6% cashback welcome bonus on all purchases for the first three months, up to a total spend of $2,000. Totaling a maximum of $200, that is enough to upset the annual fee ($120) and still net your $80. TD also waives the annual fee for this card (equal to $120) the first year, this applies to the primary and first additional cardholder.
Be aware that this offer is limited though, and available until May 31, 2020.
TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Welcome Bonus score: 8/10
#2 Rewards Program
As expected of a cashback credit card, the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite doesn’t really have a rewards program. It only rewards you in the form of cashback.
TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Rewards Program Score: 9/10
#3 Earn Rates
The TD Cash Back Visa Infinite offers a 3% earn rate on groceries, gas and recurring bill purchases, for every other type of purchase you get a 1% return on your spending. If you find yourself constantly buying bulk for a big household, then this can be a huge saver. The 3% earn rate lasts up to $15,000 of spending.
A little trick to get the most out of the recurring bills category is to setup subscription and other type of monthly payments as automatic, in order for them to net you that 3% cash back.

#4 Travel Benefits
This card does kind of falter when it comes to travel benefits, but it has some key strong points.
|Annual Travel Credit||No|
|Airport Lounge Access||No|
|Other Travel Benefits||Yes|
The TD Cash Back Visa Infinite provides roadside assistance thanks to its complimentary Deluxe TD Auto Club membership. Aside from this, it also has an emergency travel assistance service to help you while you are abroad or even out of your province of residence on a trip. The last key strong point is the Visa Concierge service, which gives you access to a personalized travel assistant to help you plan every aspect of your trip or to arrange special services or purchases for you, like a ticket concert or a restaurant reservation.
Other exclusive Visa Infinite perks include exclusive luxury hotel benefits – like access to complimentary breakfast and wi-fi – as well as access to special food and wine events. This card also offers up auto rental discounts through Avis and Budget worldwide, at a minimum of 10% in Canada and the US and 5% internationally.

#5 Annual Benefits Vs. Annual Fee
As we commented before, this card has an annual fee of $120. It also requires an annual minimum income of $60,000 or a household income of $100,000 to apply. The first year for this card is quite valuable, with its 6% cash back welcome bonus rate, along with two first-year annual fee rebates (for the primary and first extra cardholder).
After that (as with almost all premium cards) the value tends to decrease, but you still get a positive net balance from the cash back earn rate annually, not to mention all of the travel benefits listed above. The TD Auto Club membership is particularly valuable thanks to the complimentary roadside assistance, add to that travel insurance, along with the concierge service and other soft travel perks and you get a pretty good value.
A great advantage of this card is that, unlike most other cash back credit cards, you can redeem your cash back any time after you’ve accumulated a minimum of $25, as opposed to just getting a statement credit at the end of the year. This gives the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite a lot of flexibility for redemption.
Another important caveat is that if you have the TD All-Inclusive Bank plan, then you don’t have to pay an annual fee on this card, ever. Also, you can have up to 3 extra authorized users, and each extra card carries with it an annual fee of $50.

#6 Referral Program
Although this card doesn’t come with a referral bonus, TD does have a referral program for opening new checking accounts. When you refer someone, you and the referred person will both get $50 directly into each one’s accounts. You can refer up to 10 people per year.
Although this isn’t as high as other referral programs like the American Express Cobalt, it is nice to have a referral bonus in the form of cash and not tied to a particular rewards system.

#7 Travel Insurance
|Emergency Medical Insurance (Out of province/country)||$2,000,000 For up to 10 consecutive days. If you or your spouse is aged 65 or older, you are covered for the first 4 days. You can also request additional top-up coverage.|
|Travel Accident Insurance|
|Trip Cancellation Insurance|
|Trip Interruption Insurance|
|Flight Delay Insurance|
|Baggage Delay||$1,000 If your baggage is delayed more than 6 hours you won’t have to worry about getting the essentials you need for your trip.|
|Lost or Stolen Baggage Insurance||$1,000|
|Hotel/Motel Burglary Insurance|
|Car Rental Theft and Damage Insurance||Yes. This card offers coverage for up to 48 consecutive days of travel.|
The TD Cash Back Visa Infinite offers a very basic insurance package, but at the very least it does come with a very decent emergency medical coverage. There’s clearly a lack of benefits in this department, although most cash back credit cards don’t really focus on travel insurance benefits. If you’re looking for better travel insurance, there are clearly better options for this category like the Amex Platinum, the Meridian Visa Infinite or the Brim World Elite, for example. Both of these have the same travel insurance coverage as the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite, but also have mobile device insurance and cover other categories as well.

#8 Purchase Coverage
This card comes with both purchase protection and extended warranty, which effectively means:
- You can repair, replace or get reimbursement from eligible items if they’re stolen or damaged within 90 days of your purchase.
- You get double the warranty, for up to an extra year, if the eligible item came with a manufacturer’s warranty valid in Canada.
TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Travel Insurance Score: 10/10
#9 Foreign Transaction Fees
Sadly, this card does charge foreign transaction fees. Which means you’ll have to pay an extra 2,5% on all your purchases abroad or that come from international retailers.
If you’re looking to avoid paying foreign transaction fees, you could read our post on the best no-foreign transaction fee credit card in Canada, or you could take a look at the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite card[IP1] .

#10 Customer Service & Online Experience
As expected of one of Canada’s biggest banks, TD offers a great customer experience both in person and online. TD’s experienced staff will make sure that you have a smooth transition out of any problem you might face while using their services.
The not-so-good part is, there are cases in which you’ll have to wait throughout a half hour or more to get help while on the phone, but sadly this is a common occurrence for most major banks due to their huge clientele.

Who Should Get The TD Cash Back Visa Infinite?
The TD Cash Back Visa Infinite offers a great welcome bonus, along with nice earn rates and a few but very useful travel benefits. The main disadvantage for this card would have to be its $120 annual fee, which does not fare well when compared to other premium cashback cards that sport $99 annual fees or less for similar or even better earn rates.
However, most cards don’t have the redemption flexibility that this card has, or its Visa Infinite perks. So, when choosing the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite, you’ll have to take a look at the trade-offs and see for yourself if it’s really worth it for you.
If you’re not convinced, let’s look at some other popular cash back alternatives so you can compare them.
