TD Rewards / Expedia for TD

An important factor in choosing which TD credit card is best for you rests on appraising the value of TD Rewards, and its redeeming portal Expedia for TD. As you can see, many of the cards come with the ability to earn TD points, but how valuable are these points? And, what can you cash them for? Well, let’s get into that.

When talking travel, TD points can be cashed either through Expedia for TD or with the Book Any Way option. In the first case TD points are valued at 0.5 cents per point (CPP), to get a better picture, that means 10,000 points = $50. Now, if you use Book Any Way the value drops to 0.4 CPP for the first $1,200 you buy, and after that, the value increases to 0.5 CPP. Note that this only works when you surpass the $1,200 limit within the same purchase. Book Any Way clearly has less value, but on the other hand it does have a lot of flexibility for the range of things you can apply your points to, not only including flights or hotels, but also taxi fares, concert tickets or almost any purchase you incur while on a trip.

Like with most bank rewards programs, the best value comes from redeeming for travel, but it’s also good to have some flexibility when choosing your rewards, right? Here’s a list of things you can redeem TD points for, other than travel:

  • Gift cards.
  • Statement credits.
  • Merchandise.
  • Student loan payment.

TD Travel Insurance

Aside from its credit card travel benefits, TD also offers a travel insurance service of its own, which you can get to either complement one of their services or if you simply want to get insured. TD’s travel insurance policies cover single trip or multi-trip emergency medical and trip cancellation / interruption.

The emergency medical coverage has no deductible and will pay for up to $5,000,000. This includes ambulance, hospital and medical bills, among others. There’s also an extended plan for those who are 55 years of age or older which provides more accessibility for seniors. In the case of the trip interruption / cancellation policy, it covers up to $20,000 and can be added to the emergency medical or bought separately.
