Byte Academy is an online, immersive coding bootcamp located in the US and India that promises to turn non-coders into either full stack software developers or data scientists, all in as little as 10 weeks for the summer immersive courses, 14 weeks for the regular full-time bootcamps or 24 weeks for the part-time option.

The bootcamps themselves aren’t for complete newbies in tech, but they offer a free Intro to Python course where you’ll learn everything you need to enter. In case that isn’t enough for you to decide whether coding is for you, you can also choose between two other low-cost introductory courses that give you a taste of what the bootcamps are all about, while still providing enough value for the courses to make sense even if you decide not to continue down that path.

Courses are for both domestic and international students, which is a great treat as far as American coding schools go. Prices for the bootcamps are pretty much standard for the US, which is not cheap for most international students. However, they do deliver the high level of tech education you would expect from an American coding bootcamp.

Along with your education in all the hard skills required to be a software developer or data scientist, you’ll also receive professional training and the chance to enter a 1-month internship set up by Byte Academy’s corporate partner, Spryte Labs. If you’re thinking about changing careers and going into one of the best-paid technology sectors, this school is an excellent starting point.

Byte Academy is an immersive coding bootcamp with headquarters in Jersey City (NJ), Houston (TX), and in Bangalore (India). They teach full stack programming centered around the Python programming language.

Besides coding bootcamps, they also offer one free and two low-cost introductory coding courses that will help anyone without any knowledge of information technology understand what coding is all about.

Who Is Byte Academy For?

Byte Academy helps both coders and non-coders become full stack developers using the Python stack, or data scientist with a focus on machine learning and neural networks. Their bootcamps don’t start from scratch so as to give more experienced coders the chance to jump right into the meat of new topics. However, that doesn’t mean that non-coders aren’t welcome, since they can take a free introductory Python course to get up to speed before starting whichever of the two bootcamps they want.

Byte Academy teaches highly motivated students from a diverse range of backgrounds who enjoy a challenge. People who constantly want to improve, learn more and want to take their careers to the next level with programming but need a helping hand.

The school accepts students from around the world, not just from within the US. However, they will not be able to sponsor you for a student, travel, or work visa, in ase you’re wondering.

Besides owning your own computer, being 18+ years of age and successfully completing the interviewing and assessment process, there are no other restrictions regarding who can or cannot join the program.

Features & Benefits of Byte Academy

Here are a few of the most important features and benefits of Byte Academy:

Well-Aligned Incentives

Byte Academy offers some pretty great payment plans that seek to make your life a little bit easier while you study and even after you graduate. It aligns its goals with its students by making sure you don’t have to pay your tuition until you actually get a job in a related field.

That means that they won’t get a cent until you succeed in your new career path, so it’s in their best interest to give you as much support as possible with that task.

No Experience Needed

Having the possibility to start learning a new skill from scratch at the hands of experienced instructors from day one is something that most people will appreciate. Many courses offer great value, but only if you already have a working knowledge of the basics. This can be particularly frustrating for someone who is trying to change careers but always hits a wall that won’t let them enroll due to lack of experience.

While you may take the proactive route and start researching all the information by yourself, this can be a bit daunting at times, especially if you don’t even know where to start. That’s when the Introduction to Python course comes in, as it lets you sign up with no previous experience at all and teaches you everything you need to get into the two bootcamps the school offers.

Online Instruction

Online instruction allows students to learn from the comfort of their homes or anywhere they would like to study. It also provides students who live far away, the chance to enroll without having to relocate, making the course available for a wider base of students. This type of learning also suits students with different learning methods, letting them learn more flexibly.

The online courses that Byte Academy offers can fit around students' lives and activities, allowing them to be more relaxed than in a classroom environment. Their educational model is that of a Flipped classroom which is proven to be far more effective than just attending lectures.

Flexible Schedule

Byte Academy gives you complete control over your schedule. This is especially advantageous if you have a busy day-to-day life, because you can also decide how many hours per week you dedicate to the course as well.

You can choose between several options that include a normal full-time schedule, a full-time summer bootcamp and several schedules of part-time classes.

Project-based Curriculum

Project-based curriculum is a feature that not all courses offer. What this means is that Byte Academy’s curriculum is built around real projects that you’ll be working on all throughout the length of the course. Not only does that imply that you’ll learn by doing, but also that, by the end of the course, you’ll have a set of fully functioning apps or other products that will now be a part of your portfolio.

For someone who just started out in the world of coding, having a set of finished products to show that goes along with the newly crafted resume can prove invaluable when it comes to finding a job in the tech industry or a related field.

Guaranteed Internships

Byte Academy guarantees a 1-month internship as a part of your training process. At the end of either bootcamp, they'll help you find the right company through their corporate partner SpryteLabs.

An internship as a software developer is not about going out for coffee, especially If it’s an internship set up from the start by the course. This is probably one of the best features a course can have because it has three key advantages that are hard to get any other way:

  • First, it gives you hands-on experience in a real working environment and on real problems, just like the ones you’ll face once you land your first job. This is a major boost for anyone’s resume and portfolio.
  • Second, it lets you meet employers directly and it lets you show them exactly what you’re capable of accomplishing. This could definitely tilt the balance in your favour once it comes time for an actual job interview since you’re no longer just another name on a resume.
  • Finally, in many cases when the intern does a good job during their internship, employers will offer them a job directly, so you’ll already be employed by the time you finish the course.

Free Material

Providing training to inexperienced students or jumping right into the meat of a course is something any course provider has to juggle. On the one hand, starting from scratch will make those with prior experience feel bored from day one and they'll feel as if they're wasting their time. On the other hand, offering a course only for those who have a background in the covered topics will drive away anyone who is thinking of taking a course like Byte Academy to pursue a career change or something similar.

In order to solve this issue, Byte Academy offers a complete introductory course completely free of charge no only to its students, but to anyone who may want to learn the basics of programming in Python and decide if the full, paid course is right for them.

$40,000 Income Guarantee

If you qualify for the ISA, you will not be required to pay your tuition unless you manage to find a job that pays $40,000 or more. The ISA is capped at $30,000 and at 15% of your income.

Byte Academy's Course List

Students who enroll in any of Byte Academy's bootcamps get more than 400 hours worth of training in software development or data science. The school offers instruction from professional coders and in-field software engineers who'll teach you all they know about the tech industry.

Costs, Payment Plans & Scholarships

#1 Costs

Byte Academy’s costs vary depending on the course you choose. Here’s how much each of them costs:

Python Bootcamp (Full-Time)$14,950 (14 weeks) or
$11,000 (10 week summer bootcamp)
Python Bootcamp (Part-Time)$14,950 (24 weeks)
Data Science Bootcamp (Full-Time)$14,950 (14 weeks) or
$11,000 (10 week summer bootcamp)
Data Science Bootcamp (Part-Time)$14,950
Intro To PythonFREE
Intro to Software Development$1,000
Intro To Data Science$1,000

Other than for the normal full-time bootcamps, these prices can actually be considered quite cheap, as far as American coding bootcamps go. These tend to average at around $15,000, with some going as high as $20,000 or more.

#2 Payment Plans

The choice to invest in your future is a fantastic decision but it can be a difficult one as well, especially when it means putting almost $15,000 on the table. At Byte Academy, they want to give as many people the opportunity to change their future as possible.

So, they have a number of tuition payment options for you to choose from, so you can focus on your future, not on how you're going to pay for it!

Pay Upfront

If you can choose this option, you’ll have to make an initial deposit of $500, then pay the balance of your tuition in full before the start of class, if you’re accepted. You can pay through different channels:

  • Personal or Bank/Cashiers Check Payment – Check Payable to Byte Academy, LLC.
  • Wire Transfer
  • Payments are also accepted via Paypal and Square

Loan Financing Through A Climb Credit

Byte Academy’s courses are eligible for financing with Climb Credit, a famous student loan provider in the US. You only need to put $500 upfront, and the rest is up to them.

Some of the basic features of these credits are:

  • Applying is free.
  • Get pre-approved for a loan in as little as 5 minutes with no impact to your credit score.
  • Low, interest only payments while in school and even after.
  • There is no pre-payment penalty if you repay your loan early.
  • Loan terms may vary from person to person.
  • Customer service available via email, phone (888-510-0533) and instant chat.

In a typical loan for one of Byte Academy’s bootcamps, you would pay:

  • 7 interest-only instalments of $80-$100 each.
  • 35 interest + principal instalments of $450 – $500 each.

Under this scheme, a course that originally costs $14,450 would run for a total $17,405 spread over a 42-month period.

Income Share Agreement (ISA)

Byte offers an ISA program through their partner Leif which allows those who qualify to only pay the initial $500 payment until they get a job that pays at least $40,000!

This ISA program allows financing of your course, other than the initial $500, and removes the need for student loans!  With the ISA, there is a predetermined cap on the interest. This connects the school’s success to yours.

The ISA caps at $30,000 and payments will never be more than 15% of your income. As mentioned, payments occur only above the income threshold of $40,000.

Who can apply for an ISA?

Anyone who does not already have an ISA with another institution and who is a US Citizen, US Permanent Resident, or DACA recipient can opt for an ISA with Byte Academy.

#3 Scholarships

Byte Academy doesn't excel when it comes to scholarships. They used to offer a $300 scholarship for students in India who wanted to take either of the two full-time bootcamps. However, this is no longer the case.

How To Apply To Byte Academy

Applying to any of Byte Academy’s programs is a simple 6 step process:

Step 1: Apply On Byte Academy’s Website

You must start by visiting Byte Academy’s website and clicking their Apply Now button. You can go to their website by clocking the button below.

Step 2: Pay Your Deposit

If you’re applying for one of their bootcamps, you’ll be required to pay a refundable $500 deposit upfront. The rest of the tuition has to be paid later.

Step 3: Admissions Interview

After paying the deposit you’ll be contacted by the admissions team for an interview. The interview will be mostly about your background, interests and to assess whether you’re a good fit for the program.

Step 4: Prep Work

In order to be accepted into either the coding or the data science bootcamps, you’re required to complete the “Intro to Python” program. If you’re know the basics of programming in Python, you can take an assessment test to skip this prerequisite (you’ll need to speak with an Admissions Officer for this option).

Step 5: Complete Enrollment Forms

If you are accepted into the program of your choice, it’s time to fill in all the required information and to hand in all the necessary documents in order to complete the enrollment process.

If you’re self-financing, this is the time to pay your tuition, if not, then the next step is to fill in any relevant financing applications.

Step 6: Start Program

After that, you’re all set. All you have to do is wait for the start of the course and begin your journey to becoming a software developer or data scientist.

Byte Academy User Reviews

Here are just a handful of verified Byte Academy reviews from a few of their members:

“I am part of the Python Full stack Bootcamp. It's been an intensive couple of weeks since I started it off. The first phase covers a lot of basics in Python such as data models, data structures, modules, file operations etc. These foundation concepts have helped me understand the language from a better standpoint. The Byte academy has developed a highly effective curriculum. The assignments and hands-on sessions during the class help a lot in understanding how to write effective codes. These further in aid in solving a lot of challenges on Hackerank and similar website.”Abijith

“I come from a computer science background. I graduated college in December 2015 and joined Byte in January 2016. I wanted to be a stronger developer so i wanted to join a boot camp. I was pretty skeptical of where I wanted to go, and I remember reading the reviews on this site, and becoming more skeptical, not knowing if Byte would be a great experience. However, because I wanted to learn python/django I went with it and joined byte. Jeff was my instructor for the three phases; he was a very helpful and great person along with all the other instructors at Byte. Byte is probably the best choice I’ve made in my life so far.”Shehryar Khan

“Course: Summer Full Time – Python Full Stack – Phase 1 As coding becomes ever more important of a skill to learn, the options of places to learn them have also expanded. Searching for a course which focuses on Python and exciting applications, Byte Academy's Curriculum stood out to me by far as the most exciting, beneficial and lucrative. I'm sure that many Bootcamps have a more textbook and Lecture style way of teaching. Where they teach their students the theory and after the course let them apply what they learnt…” — Isaac

“This is a fantastic bootcamp. At the moment it is still small which means personalized attention from an extremely competent and passionate instructor staff. The environment is collaborative – students in more senior cohorts jump at the chance to help those who are new to the bootcamp. There is a lot to learn in a short amount of time, so best to come in having completed the prework so that you can hit the ground running. Be ready to put in the hours! Curriculum is rigorous, but if you're serious about this then that's exactly what you should want.” — Adam J

“After, graduating from college, I felt that I didn’t have the hands on experience that a lot of companies are seeking. Byte Academy not only gave me the full stack development skills; they also gave me the finance education that allowed me to find and thrive in the FinTech industry. Upon leaving the bootcamp I found a position as an python developer in a startup company, called Enso Financial in the fintech industry. After, the company saw a successful acquisition, I left the company to work at one of the world's leading investing banks JPMorgan Chase & Co.”A.Reyes

“My experience at Byte Academy was intense. I had to work hard, and probably learned the most in the short duration that I was there. It all paid off though. I was quite happy with the final project that we completed in my cohort and was able to get a great job within a month of graduating. Thanks Tom, for all your help with my final project and with preparing me for job interviews. I guess it is quite true that what you'll get out of Byte is what you put in. If you're ready to work hard and spend the time in learning the material, this is a great bootcamp. If you want to just sit back and listen to lectures, this is not for you.” — Ben

“Byte academy teaches far them simple programing, it teaches you how to think like a software engineer. We covered basic CS algorithms and how computers function at a lower level to give us a better understanding of what out programs are doing. We worked extensively using proper git work flow, white board sessions and constant team communication. I learned that the over all design and implementation is far more important then the lines of code one would write. Byte was a great experience and the instructors are very knowledgeable and attentive, ready and willing to help out any time, even nights and weekends.”William Mantly

In Summary
