If that’s something you can relate to, then click or tap on the button below to learn more.

Code Institute is a European university credit-rated online coding bootcamp that offers diplomas in tech fundamentals and full stack software development. It is a successful school that manages to get most of its students to land high-paying jobs in the tech industry.

Who Is It For?

Code Institute is designed for non-coders who want to change careers without having to quit their jobs or careers in the process. You don't require coding experience, yet it is advised that you do at least take their free online 5-Day Coding Challenge to learn the basics before you get started and to find out whether coding is really the best option for you.

This is also a very good choice for those who also plan to deepen their knowledge by pursuing a major in Computer Science or a similar field, since credits are validated in some European universities.

Features & Benefits

Here are a few of the most important features and benefits of Code Institute:

High Earning Potential

On average, Code Institute graduates earn around €55,000 a year in their first year after finishing the course. Most of their graduates can land a job within 6 months of graduating and after that report an increase in salary during their first three years.

Once they become senior software developers, they earn an average salary of €70,000.

Online Instruction

Online instruction allows students to learn from the comfort of their homes or anywhere they would like to study. It also provides students who live far away, the chance to enroll without having to relocate, making the course available for a wider base of students. This type of learning also suits students with different learning methods, letting them learn more flexibly.

The online courses that Code Institute offers can fit around students' lives and activities, allowing them to be more relaxed than in a classroom environment. This type of option will allow working people to pursue a new career path without taking the risk of leaving their old jobs until they're ready to land a new role in software development.

Personalized Mentorship

All courses have an instructor in charge of giving each student hands-on help whenever needed. They are in charge of leading workshops and helping students with any problems they might run into during the week. Their job at Code Institute is to make sure that students are always able to complete all class assignments successfully.

Code Institute's mentors are there to help you not only during the course but also after graduation in order to connect you with a company that will be the perfect match.

Flexible Schedule

Code Institute gives you complete control over your schedule. This is especially advantageous if you have a busy day-to-day life because you can also decide how many hours per week you dedicate to the course as well.

You'll only be required to attend a minimum of 12 hours per week in the Full Stack programme, and the Tech Fundamentals course is even laxer, with a total of 30 hours of course material for you to explore at your leisure and your own pace.

Project-based Curriculum

A project-based curriculum is a feature that not all courses offer. What this means is that Code Institute’s curriculum is built around real projects that you’ll be working on throughout the length of the course. Not only does that imply that you’ll learn by doing, but also that, by the end of the course, you’ll have a set of fully functioning apps or other products that will now be a part of your portfolio.

For someone who just started in the world of coding, having a set of finished products to show that goes along with the newly crafted resume can prove invaluable when it comes to finding a job in the tech industry or a related field.

Code Institute's curriculum is based on recommendations from the Industry Advisory Council (IAC), which is a representative body, comprising industry employers, recruiters, academics, enterprise organizations, and start-ups. The group provides validation and guidance around the education and certification programs created by Code Institute.

The group makes sure that this training (and credit-rating) meets the needs of employers of software developers.

Free Material

Providing training to inexperienced students or jumping right into the meat of a course is something any course provider has to juggle. On the one hand, starting from scratch will make those with prior experience feel bored from day one and they'll feel as if they're wasting their time. On the other hand, offering a course only for those who have a background in the covered topics will drive away anyone who is thinking of taking a course like Code Institute to pursue a career change or something similar.

In order to solve this issue, Code Institute offers introductory material free of charge no only to its students, but to anyone who may want to learn the basics and decide if the full, paid course is right for them.

This comes in the form of a highly-rated 5-Day Coding challenge where you'll learn HTML, CSS, and even JavaScript! It'll let you hit the ground running in any course you decide to take, especially at Code Institute.

Job Search Assistance And School Network Opportunities

Over 1,000 partner companies and a hands-on approach to matching companies with the perfect candidates and vice versa is probably one of the best features Code Institute has to offer. It's so effective that over 90% of graduates manage to land jobs within just 6 months of graduation.

Part-time Courses

Code Institute's courses are all part-time, so they offer the possibility of learning a new skill or starting on a new career path without having to stop everything else in your life. That means that you can keep your current job, or be a full-time parent, while at the same time building a better future for you and your loved ones.

Only 12 hours per week of mandatory online presence, plus an average 6 to 10 hours per week of extra time to practice the new skills you just learned, mean that you'll have more than enough time left in your week to take care of anything else you might need to do.

The following companies have hired Code Institute graduates:

BTEIRGRIDCrua OutdoorsAQMetrics

As you can see, graduating from Code Institute all but ensures a successful career in software development, and they do it without even offering an ISA that would forcefully align their interests to yours by charging the tuition fees only AFTER you find a job.

This shows a very strong commitment on behalf of the school to help their students succeed, and that’s something we, at Yore Oyster, value greatly.

High Earning Potential

Although the median salary is somewhere close to €37,500 (which basically means that half of the alumni who get jobs earn more than that amount and half of them earn less), the average salary for the school’s graduates is €55,000. This happens to be €5,000 higher than the average software developer salary in Europe. That means that graduates from Code Institute earn more, on average, than other software developers from other schools.

This is a seriously important metric because it implies that either Code Institute alumni are better at what they do than other programmers, or Code Institute is better at placing graduates in higher-paid jobs, or both!

Costs, Payment Plans & Scholarships

Code Institute’s only offers three courses, one of which is completely free. These are the tuition costs you can expect to pay if you make an upfront payment.

CourseCost & Tuition
Diploma in Tech Fundamentals€1,495
Full-Stack Software Development Diploma€6,500
5-Day Coding ChallengeFree

The key to these prices is that they’re comparably lower than other tech schools that offer similar quality instructors, programs with similar syllabuses and similar port-graduation job-placement support.

Furthermore, as you’re about to find out, they also offer payment plans and there are several financing options available for certain eligible candidates.

One thing that Code Institute doesn’t offer is an ISA or an FSA, which are very popular options for tech schools that want to attract students that don’t want to pay until they actually land a job.

Payment Plans

Funding can be tricky, and not everyone has over €6K lying around for their education or career transition. That’s why Code Institute continually looks for ways to support your career transformation journey. They offer two basic payment plans for their Full Stack Software Development course directly with the school, as well as a student loan through third-party financing.

 Upfront paymentFlexible Monthly Plans
Diploma in Tech Fundamentals€1,4955 installments of €375/month = €1,875
Full-Stack Software Development Diploma€6,500Must call to discuss options.

3rd Party Financing: The Swedish CSN

Swedish students have the right to apply for student finance through CSN (Swedish National Board of Student Aid). Code Institute is approved by CSN, and to apply for financing all you need is your letter of acceptance from Code Institute. Once you’ve got that, you’re set!

Financing is available for tuition fees, insurance, and travel expenses on a case-by-case basis.

It’s very important to remember that when you apply for a loan and are approved, you are bound by contract to repay the loan, even if you don’t complete the course.

Other 3rd-Party Loans and Grants

Besides third-party loans and Code Institute’s in-house financing options, there are also a series of grants that some European students can apply for, depending on their country of origin. Code Institute has been approved by all of the following grants, so if you’re eligible for any of them, you should apply quickly since spots are always limited.

  • Learner Loans Available in The UK: Code Institute is working in partnership with Further Education Colleges across Britain and Wales. Funding is through the Learner Loan and Further Education Colleges.
  • The National Transition Training Fund of Scotland: If you’re aged over 25 and are currently under threat of redundancy or have been made redundant at any time from March 1st 2020 onwards, you can apply for a grant of up to £2,500 to help pay part of the program’s tuition costs.
  • ReAct Training Fund In Wales: Support under the ReAct scheme is available for individuals who live in Wales. Applicants must be unemployed on or after January 1st, 2020.
  • Educational Training Boards Ireland: Code Institute also works with various Educational Training Boards in Ireland.

If you want to find out more, you’ll have to talk to a Code Institute educational advisor, by clicking on the button below and scheduling a call.

Costs vs. Benefits

Once you compare the total cost of Code Institute’s flagship program with the average income once you graduate and land a job, it’s easy to see that the course will pay for itself many times over, especially if you’re paying in installments.

That’s probably the reason why that is one of the most popular payment plans that most students choose. It softens the blow while you get your first job and, once you do, paying the installments along with the little bit extra in interests won’t be a problem.

How To Apply

The application process is fairly straightforward as with any other online tech school. You only need to fill out a very simple form with basic personal information such as name, email address and phone number.

After, that you’ll be prompted to schedule a call with one of Code Institute’s educational advisors who will basically guide you by the hand the rest of the way.

How to Get Accepted

Key things to point out about the first call and the application process are:

  • The call is basically your first interview with the school so you should take it as seriously as the situation requires.
  • There are no admission tests of any kind, but you will be further interviewed to assess your previous coding knowledge or background.
  • While having a coding background is not required, you should take the free 5-Day Coding Challenge before applying to any of the two paid courses. That shows interest on your behalf and it will make it a lot easier to get started.

Code Institute User Reviews

Here are just a handful of verified Code Institute reviews from a few of their members:

“I started the course on the 29th of November day after my 21st birthday. I did not have any knowledge of coding. I was looking to learn. For Code Insitute, I found out by looking up all of the schools available in Europe. I have familiars who have finished coding schools but have not learned anything. I did not want the same to happen to me as I knew I wanted to do something serious. After reading information on Code Institute's website, the first thing that I noticed was that their degree is university-approved. After I have started the course everything that they were claiming on the website came to be true. I could not be more satisfied with my CI diploma as even recruiters have told me that now I have a strong profile to be a junior developer. So CI diploma can get you a job, it is a well-respected institution even by people who did not know about it before. The amount of knowledge you gain from completing the course will give you the best starting point for your career in this industry. That is why I highly recommend CI.”Nemanja Manojlovic

“The Course was focused on teaching the most relevant curriculum at a pace that both made you learn and challenged you ensuring you get the most benefit out of it. As for the curriculum, the instructors were top class always helpful and knew how to teach. Additionally and quite importantly I may add, the after-care support I find un-rivalled. All in all Code institute is invested in your future success as a software developer.” —Miguel Martinez

“Outstanding course – Diploma in Software Development, covers everything you would need to begin a career in coding, which is actually very hard to do, and involves learning a hell of a lot of new skills. The Code Institute manages to fit everything in whilst giving you amazing support. Thank you sooo much to the tutors, you wouldn't be able to do it without them, literally there at all times, and insanely clever, you will always sort out your problem and learn a lot at the same time. I finished the course in May and have already started working freelance. One of few courses you gain this much practical experience, and a credit-rated qualification if stick to your deadlines (like you would in the job) and listen to your mentor/tutors and Slack community. Another kudos is they let you stay on the Slack community once you have graduated, networking is very important and the support is priceless. Thanks very much, it's been great!”Sophie Wickham

“I found this to be a fantastic course and an excellent challenging experience.  Coming from a sales background with little to no knoweldge of coding I found it significantly challenging.  Luckily the support that is offered reallys helps you and it does it in a way that lets you find the answer yourself without just providing it straight up.  The support tools include a mentor assigned to you for the whole duration, who was excellent, basically a 24/7 tutoring team, who were also excellent, an awesome slack community that includes students going through the same course with channels specific to the stage you are at and a general student care team who check in with you regularly to ensure everything is ok and on track.”Les
