Coder Academy an Australian coding schools that teaches IT with a university-approved syllabus that will grant you credits for college. Courses are both online and in-person at their campus in Brisbane. As of today, Coder Academy offers three main courses, namely the Code, Cloud & Cyber Security Course, the Fast Track Coding Bootcamp and the Flex Track Coding Bootcamp. Additionally, they also offer their Step Into Tech course which is a simplified bootcamp that teaches you how to code responsive and beautiful websites, and the Spin Data Into Gold, which is a foundational course on data analysis and manipulation using Python, both of which earn you an undergraduate certificate in IT.

Some of the highlights of the course include an optional internship in one of Coder Academy’s partner companies at the end of each course, a flexible schedule in some of its courses and a nationally recognized Higher Education Diploma of Information Technology.

Coder Academy is an Australian information technology bootcamp headquartered in Brisbane that offers online and in-person courses where students can learn everything from cloud computing and cybersecurity to full stack web development.

The school is a division of the Academy of Information Technology, which is a registered higher education provider in Australia. That means that their courses grant nationally accepted certifications that students can use as credits pursuant to a degree in computer science or a related field.

Who Is Coder Academy For?

Coder Academy is primarily geared towards those who want to become software engineers, cloud computing experts or cyber security specialists. Their flagship program, the Diploma of Information Technology in Code, Cloud & Cyber Security is only offered to Australian citizens or residents and not to international students. However, they do offer other online courses that those who are not currently living in Australia can attend.

The programs promise to turn non-coders into software developers and even to prepare them for important certification tests such as the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Exam, so if that’s one of your goals, then you should definitely consider Coder Academy.

Apart from those restrictions, candidates to the school must also:

  • Be 18+ years of age.
  • Own a laptop computer no older than 2015 with at least 8Gb of RAM.
  • Have successfully completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent
  • Undergo an Admissions Test prior to entry

Some of the people who stand to benefit the most from Coder Academy’s programs are:

  • Entrepreneurs who have a great idea and want to implement it themselves.
  • Anyone who wants to pursue a career in computer science but doesn’t want to go through a full 4-year program.
  • Those who want to change careers and find a more rewarding and relevant job in the tech industry.
  • People who are looking for new skills for professional development to be more competent and indispensable in their own fields.

Features & Benefits of Coder Academy

Here are a few of the most important features and benefits of Coder Academy:

Online Instruction

Online instruction allows students to learn from the comfort of their homes or anywhere they would like to study. It also provides students who live far away, the chance to enroll without having to relocate, making the course available for a wider base of students. This type of learning also suits students with different learning methods, letting them learn more flexibly.

Coder Academy offers online instruction for both full-time and part-time courses. The classes can fit around students' lives and activities, allowing them to be more relaxed than in a classroom environment. This type of option will allow working people to pursue a new career path without taking the risk of leaving their old jobs until they're ready to land a new role in software development.

Project-based Curriculum

A project-based curriculum is a feature that not all courses offer. What this means is that Coder Academy’s curriculum is built around real projects that you’ll be working on all throughout the length of the course. Not only does that imply that you’ll learn by doing, but also that, by the end of the course, you’ll have a set of fully functioning apps or other products that will now be a part of your portfolio.

For someone who just started out in the world of coding, having a set of finished products to show that goes along with the newly crafted resume can prove invaluable when it comes to finding a job in the tech industry or a related field.

An Optional Internship

Coder Academy offers a 1-month internship with any of their corporate partners at the end of their three main courses as a part of your training process. An internship as a software developer is not about going out for coffee, especially If it’s an internship set up from the start by the course. This is probably one of the best features a course can have because it has three key advantages that are hard to get any other way:

  • First, it gives you hands-on experience in a real working environment and on real problems, just like the ones you’ll face once you land your first job. This is a major boost for anyone’s resume and portfolio.
  • Second, it lets you meet employers directly and it lets you show them exactly what you’re capable of accomplishing. This could definitely tilt the balance in your favour once it comes time for an actual job interview since you’re no longer just another name on a resume.
  • Finally, in many cases when the intern does a good job during their internship, employers will offer them a job directly, so you’ll already be employed by the time you finish the course.

The intenrship is not guaranteed, however, and you must earn it with hard work and good results throughout the course.

Coder Academy's Course List

Students who enroll in any of the three main courses Coder Academy offers get more than 1,000 hours worth of training in software development, cloud computing or cybersecurity.

Coder Academy User Reviews

Here are just a handful of verified Coder Academy reviews from a few of their members:

“The last 6 months have been such an amazing experience full of great memories and tribulations. The bootcamp is very intensive, but you will experience first hand what pressure is like as well as the amazing support of the teachers and staff. While there is so much to learn and continuously learn it is a great start for anyone if they wish to get a start in the world of programming”Darren Lim

“Great experience with a great group of people with great support from the Coder staff. Learned a lot and I feel much more confident to find a work in the industry. No regrets.”Luigino

“The staff here are an amazing bunch of people! Each and every one of them take the time to go through any problems you may run into, even when it's just a missed comma or typo. The most important part of the course is the industry connections you get from all the guest mentors that come in. They make sure to tailor the talks to what you're learning so it stays relevant but also gives you industry perspective. Be sure to come in with an open mind and the aptitude of a keen learner as you will most definitely need all the patience you can muster when getting re-skilled as a developer. Having said that, it will pay off exponentially in the long-run as these skills will most definitely remain in high demand for the foreseeable future.”Rob H

“Bootcamp is never meant to be easy. But with great support from the teachers. all that is left is, How bad do you want to learn? This class is run with 3 teachers that is always ready to go over subjects you don't understand, will stay back till late, if need be. if you are looking into Coding, give this one a go.”Thomas Lawrence

“Made the switch from finance to coding. Attempted to self-teach myself coding and thought it coding was too technical for me to grasp. Upon finishing this course, I'm now feeling confident coding 🙂 Great experience with great group of people (educators and students). The bootcamp is intensive, so do be prepared to put in the hard work. Overall, recommend this course”James Duong
