Digital House is a part-time Latin American coding bootcamp that teaches full stack web development, data analytics, data science, user experience (UX) design and digital marketing, both online and in-person. It has multiple headquarters in 7 countries starting in Argentina and going all the way up to Mexico. They also offer a special certification called Mercado Libre Certified Consultant that will help you earn a living by helping others succeed in their online business using the popular e-commerce platform as base. Finally, Digital House offers the Digital Immersion Program that trains you in corporate digital transformation so you can become a force of change within your own company.

If you’re attending the in-person courses, Digital House will provide you with a notebook and other devices to work with, but if you choose the online modality you’ll need your own computer + internet access.

All courses cost $2,100, except for the Mercado Libre Certified Consultant, which costs $1,400, and they last an average of 5 months. The only caveat is a harsh refund policy that makes it a little risky to apply if you’re not sure whether or not the courses are for you. Highly skilled instructors, a project-based curriculum and good flexibility when it comes to schedules make this a great choice for those looking for a career change but who don’t want to put all their eggs in one basket by quitting their current job.

Digital House is an Argentinean part-time, both in-person and fully-online coding school with headquarters in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay, that currently offers courses that span data analytics, digital marketing, UX design and full stack web development. The courses are 16 hours per week and last 5 months, for a total of approximately 320 hours of classes, plus an average of 6 to 10 extra hours per week in order to work on class assignments.

They train their students in some of the most in-demand skills and also offer digital transformation services for corporations, that aim to change company culture, improve the skills of employees and develop industry-specific knowledge to help those corporations compete in the new emerging markets.

Their courses are targeted to students that have prior basic experience in different fields, although the specific topics they’ll need to know depend on the particular course they plan to enroll in.

Besides their core courses, Digital House offer two certification programs, one as a Certified Mercado Libre Consultant and another as a Certified Tech Developer.

Who Is It For?

Digital House is targeted to students with at least a secondary degree, who want to learn to code or who want to learn other digital skills such as digital marketing or online business management. However, it is not a coding school for complete newbies in programming or digital environments.

Applicants are expected to have basic knowledge of certain field-specific topics, depending on the course they want to enroll in. It is also essential for most of their courses that students have at least a basic knowledge of the English language since it will make handling the different programming languages and some of the course material a lot easier.

Here is a list of the previous concepts and skills you’ll need in order to be accepted in each particular course:

CourseAdmission Requirements
Full Stack Web DevelopmentBasic knowledge of programming: control structures (if, for, while, handling arrays and functions). Basics of internet and computers. Basic English.
Data AnalyticsNotions of probability and descriptive statistics. Basic knowledge of Excel.
Data ScienceNotions of descriptive statistics and notions of programming in Python.
User Experience (UX) DesignIntroduction to the concepts and methodology behind User Experience Design. Notions of Usability and UI.
Digital MarketingBasics of Marketing. Evolution of the media. Glossary of terms.
Mercado Libre Certified ConsultantExperience in business management, professional experience with sales teams, sales operation, administration, marketing or related branches. Professional experience in digital environments.

It’s important to note that, during the application process, applicants will be tested on basic knowledge of these topics either by a prep-work examination or a short coding challenge. Even so, they have accepted non-coders provided they show potential in logical thinking and problem solving.

What You Will Need

  • Given that this is a coding bootcamp, a personal computer and an internet connection are a must.
  • You’ll be required to install certain software on your computer, which depends on the particular course you’re taking.
  • For the fully online courses you´ll also need a webcam and a microphone. A pair of headphones will also come in handy.

What You Will Not Need

If you’re taking the in-person course, Digital House will provide you with a notebook and other devices as needed for you to work while on campus. Therefore, in those cases, you won’t need to have your own computer. However, it is strongly advised that you do have one so you can work at home while you’re not on campus.

Features & Benefits

Here are a few of the most important features and benefits of Digital House:

1.     In-Person Instruction

In-person instruction creates an environment where students can concentrate better because there will be fewer distractions. This will grant them a better understanding and a higher chance of completing the course since they will also interact with instructors and peers.

A classroom also grants the opportunity to access more information since the student will be in the same place as their instructor and peers, making it easier to make themselves heard. This also makes it easier to make friends, problem-solve and build a network with people of different backgrounds.

Digital House counts multiple campuses strewn across 7 Latin American nations, as well as a large array of partner co-working spaces where instructors provide in-person lessons or consultations.

2.     Online Instruction

Online instruction allows students to learn from the comfort of their homes or anywhere they would like to study. It also provides students who live far away, the chance to enroll without having to relocate, making the course available for a wider base of students. This type of learning also suits students with different learning methods, letting them learn more flexibly.

The online courses that Digital House offers can fit around students' lives and activities, allowing them to be more relaxed than in a classroom environment. This type of option will allow working people to pursue a new career path without taking the risk of leaving their old jobs until they're ready to land a new role in software development.

As of writing this review, Digital House offers all of its courses online, providing a well-designed virtual campus where students can interact with each other and with instructors, work on collaborative projects and more.

In the virtual campus, you’ll also find recordings of previous lessons (only available for a limited time after the actual lesson takes place), course material, videos and a plethora of other resources to make learning easier and more fun.

3.     Project-based Curriculum

Project-based curriculum is a feature that not all courses offer. What this means is that Digital House’s curriculum is built around real projects that you’ll be working on all throughout the length of the course. Not only does that imply that you’ll learn by doing, but also that, by the end of the course, you’ll have a set of fully functioning apps or other products that will now be a part of your portfolio.

For someone who just started out in the world of coding, having a set of finished products to show that goes along with the newly crafted resume can prove invaluable when it comes to finding a job in the tech industry or a related field.

An excellent feature of some of Digital House’s courses is that students can actually choose particular projects or problems they’re interested in working on. This keeps students motivated and it makes the entire learning experience more relevant for each one.

4.     Free Material

Providing training to inexperienced students or jumping right into the meat of a course is something any course provider has to juggle. On the one hand, starting from scratch will make those with prior experience feel bored from day one and they'll feel as if they're wasting their time. On the other hand, offering a course only for those who have a background in the covered topics will drive away anyone who is thinking of taking a course like Digital House to pursue a career change or something similar.

To enroll in, Digital House, you will need some basic prior experience in different fields, but, fortunately, the school offers introductory material and a set of introductory webinars free of charge to anyone who may want to find out if the courses they offer are right for them. As a potential student, you’ll receive guidance that will help you succeed in the application process and in the actual courses, once your application is approved.

5.     Part-time Courses

Digital House offers the possibility of learning a new skill or starting out on a new career path without having to stop everything else in your life. That means that you can keep your current job, or be a full-time parent, while at the same time building a better future for you and your loved ones.

A maximum of 16 hours per week of mandatory presence, either online or in-person, plus an average 6 to 10 hours per week of extra time to practice the new skills you just learned, mean that you'll have more than enough time left in your week to take care of anything else you might need to do.

Digital House Reviews

Here are just a handful of verified Digital House reviews from a few of their members:

“This course it's a really big deal. They teach the latest techs in the industry. They teach how to work with those latest tools, and they keep actualized. I use to recommend to all my friends no matter of wich field they came, what you learn here it's a really important tool for any field.” —Tomas Cufaro

“Great course to learn how to program in node js, html5,css3, javascript, boostrap.” —Javier Suarez Dominguez

“A hands-on overview of machine learning models from linear regressions to XGBoost, from data wrangling to feature engineering to creating ML pipelines. We also covered various specifics such as NLP, distributed processing and a bit of model deploy.” —Agustín Diaz Biain

“I have studied in one of the first batches of Digital House and found it amazing. Student:teacher ratio is low There is time between classes in case you don’t understand something there’s always time to learn it again.” —Lucas Bonder

“Digital House provides the best learning experience for newcomers in the field.” —Tomas Jauregui

“It was a great experience to go through this journey. But it has been really hard to get a job as a Data Scientist with no work experience. As the career is not easy to afford (in terms of paying this kind of education in Argentina) it is very challenging to turn your career (in which you may have many responsibilities and barely spare time) over and make a fresh start as a Machine learning or deep learning analyst.” —Maximiliano Rivadeneira

Alumni Stories

In case those reviews haven’t convinced you, here are a few quick stories about Digital House members—the sort of people you’ll be rubbing shoulders with once you enter the program.

Before Digital HouseAfter Digital HouseDo They Recommend Digital House?
María was working as an accounts manager for Burson-Marsteller, but she felt she could do more than tthat. María joined Digital House and enrolled in both UX Design and Digital Marketing. Today, she works as an Associate Producer at CNN.“Great course. Instructors are amazing, they teach with lots of enthusiasm. I'm definitely taking another course next year.”
Gaston Laterza used to be a marine with 10 years of experience. Gaston enrolled and graduated from the Data Science course in 2019 and has been crunching the numbers ever since. Today, he works as a data visualization engineer in Jam City, plus he’s a part-time lecturer at Palermo University.“Very well optimized. May sound expensive, but it pays itself.”

In Summary

Digital House is an excellent option for Latin American students who want to learn to code, become digital marketers, Mercado Libre consultants or data scientists. It’s ideal for those who don’t have enough grasp of the English language to take a course in English, especially if it’s something they plan on doing at a slower pace, as opposed to some full-time immersive bootcamps that require you to put in 80 hours of work per week. If that’s the kind of learning experience you’re looking for, then Digital House is not for you.

The prices of the courses are accessible to many across Latin America, although they may be a bit steep for those in countries with a battered economy and high indices of inflation. For those in that situation, Digital House offers a scholarship that can help ease the blow, but it won’t cover the full tuition.

The fact that they provide you with a notebook and other devices to work with during the in-person courses is a great feature that not all courses offer so it’s a big plus if you live in a city near one of their headquarters.

Highly skilled instructors, a project-based curriculum and good flexibility when it comes to schedules make this a great choice for those looking for a career change but who don’t want to put all their eggs in one basket by quitting their current job.
