Tax filing, renewals and application windows that keep your benefits coming, checked on official government pages. Pick your province to see only the dates that apply to you, and add them to your calendar so you get a reminder a week before.

How the calendar works

September 2026

  1. Wednesday, September 30, 2026: Alberta Energy Rebate ($100): applications close

    Alberta For: Everyone

    Open July 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026

    Adults 18 and over with household income of $225,000 or less who filed a 2025 tax return apply online through an Alberta.ca Account. If you get the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH, ADAP or Income Support, you get it automatically and don’t need to apply.

October 2026

  1. Thursday, October 1, 2026: Nova Scotia Heating Assistance Rebate (HARP) opens for 2026–27

    Nova Scotia For: Low income, Seniors

    Low-income Nova Scotians who pay for home heating can apply online or at Access Nova Scotia from October 1. The closing date for this season hasn’t been posted yet (last season closed March 31).

  2. Thursday, October 1, 2026: Old Age Security goes up 1.4% (October to December)

    Nothing to do. OAS rises 1.4% starting with the October payment, paid October 28.

  3. Thursday, October 1, 2026: Québec shelter allowance: the 2026–27 benefit year starts

    Quebec For: Low income, Seniors, Families with children

    If you have a dependent child or will be 50 or older by September 30, 2027, and spend 30% or more of your income on housing, apply through My Account or form LEX-165-V. Apply any time up to September 30, 2027 and it’s paid back to October 1, 2026.

  4. Friday, October 30, 2026: Last day to claim missed Canada Carbon Rebate payments (proposed)

    Proposed, not yet law All of Canada For: Everyone

    If you haven’t filed a 2021 to 2024 tax return, or need to change one, file by October 30, 2026 to still get carbon rebate payments you’re owed. This was proposed in Budget 2025 and isn’t law yet (Bill C-31 was still before Parliament when we checked).

December 2026

  1. Tuesday, December 1, 2026: Nova Scotia Seniors Care Grant ($750): apply by December 1

    Nova Scotia For: Seniors, Low income

    Open September 1, 2026 to December 1, 2026

    If you’ll be 65 or older by March 31, 2027 and your household net income is $45,100 or less, apply online or at Access Nova Scotia. It helps with household, health care and heating costs.

  2. Thursday, December 31, 2026: New Brunswick Low-Income Seniors’ Benefit ($629): apply by December 31

    New Brunswick For: Seniors, Low income

    If you lived in New Brunswick and got the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance or the Allowance for the Survivor in 2025, apply online or at Service New Brunswick.

  3. Thursday, December 31, 2026: Nova Scotia Property Tax Rebate for Seniors: apply by December 31

    Nova Scotia For: Seniors, Low income

    Homeowners who get the Guaranteed Income Supplement (or the Allowance) and paid their 2025 property tax in full can get half of it back, up to $800.

  4. Thursday, December 31, 2026: Ontario Trillium Benefit: last day to choose one June payment (if you haven’t filed yet)

    If you haven’t filed your 2025 return and want your 2026 benefit paid in one lump sum in June 2027, file by December 31 with box 61060 on Form ON-BEN ticked.

  5. Thursday, December 31, 2026: RDSP: last year for grants and bonds if the beneficiary turns 49 in 2026

    If the person the RDSP is for turns 49 this year, contribute before December 31 to get the last government grants and bonds.

  6. Thursday, December 31, 2026: RDSP: last day a family member can open a plan for an adult

    All of Canada For: People with a disability, Caregivers, Families with children

    If an adult’s ability to sign a contract is in doubt and they have no legal representative, a parent, spouse, common-law partner or sibling must open the Registered Disability Savings Plan by December 31, 2026. Family members who are already plan holders can stay on after 2026.

    Open July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026

    Yukon seniors 65 and older who own or rent their home send in the application with their heating costs.

  1. Friday, January 1, 2027: CPP yearly cost-of-living increase

    All of Canada For: Seniors, People with a disability

    Nothing to do. CPP payments are adjusted once a year in January. The 2027 rate hasn’t been announced yet.

  3. Friday, January 15, 2027: Newfoundland and Labrador Home Heating Supplement: apply by January 15

    Newfoundland and Labrador For: Low income, Seniors, Families with children

    Households with 2025 adjusted family income of $150,000 or less that bought at least 250 litres of furnace or stove oil in 2026 apply with their invoices. Late applications aren’t accepted.

February 2027

  1. Sunday, February 28, 2027: Your 2026 tax slips should arrive by the end of February

    Watch the mail for your T4A(OAS), T4A(P), T5007 and other slips, or download them in CRA My Account. You’ll need them to file your 2026 tax return.

March 2027

  1. Monday, March 1, 2027: RRSP deadline for the 2026 tax year

    All of Canada For: Everyone

    Contributions made by Monday, March 1, 2027 can be deducted on your 2026 return. This is the Income Tax Act’s 60-days-after-year-end rule; the CRA hasn’t posted its 2027 date yet.

  2. Monday, March 15, 2027: NWT Senior Home Heating Subsidy: apply by March 15

    Northwest Territories For: Seniors, Low income

    Northwest Territories residents 60 and older who meet the income limits apply at an ECE Service Centre for the 2026–27 heating season.

April 2027

  1. Thursday, April 1, 2027: Old Age Security inflation review (April to June)

  2. Friday, April 30, 2027: Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit: file to keep payments

    All of Canada For: Low income, Seniors, Families with children, People with a disability

    This benefit replaced the GST/HST credit in July 2026. File your return by April 30, 2027 so your payments continue without a break; the amount is recalculated each July.

  3. Friday, April 30, 2027: Guaranteed Income Supplement: file your taxes to keep it coming

    All of Canada For: Seniors, Low income

    If you get GIS, file your 2026 return by April 30, 2027 so your payments aren’t interrupted. Service Canada renews GIS from your return each July.

  4. Friday, April 30, 2027: File your 2026 tax return and pay any balance

    All of Canada For: Everyone

    File by Friday, April 30, 2027 and pay anything you owe. Filing on time keeps the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Canada Child Benefit, the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, the Canada Disability Benefit and provincial credits coming without a break.

    CRA states the rule each year; its 2027 dates aren’t posted yet. April 30, 2027 is a weekday.

June 2027

  1. Tuesday, June 15, 2027: Self-employed tax filing deadline (2026 return)

    If you or your spouse or partner are self-employed, file by Tuesday, June 15, 2027. Any balance owing is still due April 30, 2027, or interest is charged.

  2. Wednesday, June 30, 2027: Canadian Dental Care Plan: coverage year ends, renew in spring

    All of Canada For: Seniors, Low income, Families with children, People with a disability

    Members have to renew for 2027–28. Renewals open in spring 2027 (no exact date yet); if you miss it, there can be a gap in your coverage.

July 2027

  1. Thursday, July 1, 2027: Child benefit and groceries benefit recalculated from your 2026 income

    All of Canada For: Families with children, Low income

    Payments from July 2027 to June 2028 are based on your 2026 income. File on time and tell the CRA about changes in marital status or children in your care.

  • Disability Tax Credit renewal

    All of CanadaFor: People with a disability, Caregivers

    Some DTC approvals have an end date, shown on your notice of determination. The CRA reminds you on your notice of assessment a year before and in the year it expires; re-apply then so the Canada Disability Benefit, RDSP grants and other supports aren’t interrupted.
