Paid in the same deposit as the Canada Child Benefit (CCB): usually the 20th of the month, or the business day before if the 20th is a weekend or holiday. December is paid earlier.

Plan ahead: the December 11 payment comes early, before the holidays, and the next one usually isn’t until late January. It has to last longer than usual.

The Nunavut Child Benefit (NUCB) is a tax-free monthly payment for families in Nunavut with children under 18. The Government of Nunavut pays for it and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) runs it, adding it to your Canada Child Benefit (CCB) so you get one deposit. From July 2026 the basic benefit doubled to $58 a month for each child.

How much you can get (July 2026 to June 2027)

For July 2026 to June 2027, the basic benefit is $58 a month per child, or $696 a year. Before July 2026 it was $29 a month per child.

Number of children under 18Basic benefit per monthPer year
1$58$696
2$116$1,392
3$174$2,088
4$232$2,784

You get the full amount if your adjusted family net income is $22,065 or less. Above that, you may get part of the benefit. The CRA works this out from your tax return for the previous year. For July 2026 to June 2027, that’s your 2025 return, plus your spouse’s or common-law partner’s.

Example

A single parent in Iqaluit with two children and a family net income of $20,000 is under $22,065, so they get the full $116 a month from the NUCB, on top of their CCB.

For higher incomes, the CRA’s child and family benefits calculator shows your NUCB and CCB together.

Who qualifies

  • You live in Nunavut.
  • You have a child under 18 who lives with you, and you’re mainly responsible for their care.
  • You qualify for the Canada Child Benefit.
  • You, and your spouse or partner if you have one, file a tax return every year, even if you had no income.

How to get it

You don’t apply for the NUCB separately. The CRA uses your CCB application and your tax returns to check whether you qualify.

  1. Apply for the Canada Child Benefit: when you register your baby’s birth, in CRA My Account, or with form RC66.
  2. File your tax return every year. Your spouse or partner must file too.
  3. Tell the CRA when you move, change banks, or your marital status changes.

What changed in 2026

  • The benefit doubled. The Government of Nunavut’s 2026–27 budget set aside $2.3 million to double the NUCB. The CRA now lists $58 a month per child from July 2026, up from $29.
  • Yearly increases. The budget also says the NUCB will go up each year to keep up with the cost of living.
  • One amount listed. Earlier CRA pages also listed a Territorial Workers’ Supplement for working families. The CRA’s page for July 2026 onward lists only the basic benefit. If you used to get the supplement and your payment looks different, call the CRA to check.

Payment late, missing or different?

  • Wait 5 working days after the payment date.
  • Check your payments in CRA My Account.
  • Still missing? Call CRA benefits at 1-800-387-1193. For general tax questions, the CRA line for Yukon, the NWT and Nunavut is 1-866-426-1527.

Payments often stop because a tax return wasn’t filed, a CRA letter went unanswered, or an address or bank account wasn’t updated. They also change when your income, marital status or number of children changes. See our where is my payment page for more checks.

Watch for scams. The CRA never asks for payment by gift card, prepaid card, e-transfer or cryptocurrency, and it doesn’t send refunds or benefit payments by text message or e-transfer. It won’t email you a link asking for personal or banking details. If a message says you must pay a fee to get your benefit, it’s a scam. Hang up and call the CRA yourself.
