The Yukon Seniors Income Supplement (YSIS) is a monthly payment from the Government of Yukon for low-income seniors. It adds up to $323.26 a month (the amount yukon.ca listed in May 2026) on top of your federal Old Age Security (OAS) and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS). There is no separate application: if you get the GIS in Yukon, you get YSIS.

How much you’ll get

The maximum is $323.26 a month, according to the yukon.ca page updated May 20, 2026. Your own amount is worked out by the Government of Canada from your GIS amount. Your GIS is based on the income on your tax return from the year before.

Amount
Maximum each month (as listed May 2026)$323.26
Maximum over 12 months$3,879.12
Tax slipA T5007 if you get more than $500 in a calendar year

If you get a T5007, include the amount as income when you file your taxes.

Example. A single senior aged 65 to 74 with no other income could get, for July to September 2026, $751.97 from OAS and up to $1,123.17 from the GIS. With the maximum YSIS, that is up to $2,198.40 a month. Most people get less than the GIS maximum, because the GIS goes down as income goes up.

Who qualifies

Yukon says you get the supplement if you:

  • live in Yukon
  • are 65 or older
  • get OAS and the GIS, and get the GIS in Yukon

A spouse aged 60 to 64 who gets the federal Spouse’s Allowance or Allowance for the Survivor can also get YSIS.

How to get it

  1. Apply to Service Canada for OAS and the GIS (or the Allowance, if you are 60 to 64).
  2. That’s all. The federal government sends Yukon the names and addresses of Yukoners who should get YSIS.
  3. File your taxes every year. This keeps your GIS, and so your YSIS, coming. The GIS asks for your return by April 30.

When it’s paid

YSIS is paid by the Government of Yukon, separately from your federal OAS and GIS deposit. Yukon doesn’t publish a regular payment day, which is why the calendar at the top of this page has no dates yet. To ask when your payment is due, call Health and Social Services at 867-667-5674.

What changed in 2026

  • Yukon updated its YSIS page on May 20, 2026 and lists a maximum of $323.26 a month.
  • Yukon has said YSIS payments are adjusted for inflation every fall, based on the Consumer Price Index. The amount may change in the fall of 2026.

Payment late, missing or different?

If a YSIS payment hasn’t arrived, check with your bank first. Then call Yukon Health and Social Services at 867-667-5674, or toll-free 1-800-661-0408, extension 5674. You can also go in person to 3168 3rd Avenue in Whitehorse. For OAS or GIS problems, call Service Canada at 1-800-277-9914.

Common reasons a payment stops or changes:

  • A missed tax return. Your GIS can stop without it, and YSIS depends on the GIS.
  • A change in income. Your income sets your GIS, and your YSIS is based on your GIS.
  • A change in marital status, address or banking. Yukon asks you to update these with both Health and Social Services and Service Canada so there are no delays.
  • Time outside Canada. OAS and the GIS may stop if you are away for more than 6 months.

Watch for scams. The government never charges a fee for YSIS, and never asks for gift cards, passwords or banking details by text or email. If you get a message like that, don’t reply. Call the numbers above instead.

Other help you might be missing

  • Pioneer Utility Grant (Yukon): help with home heating for seniors who are 65 or older in the year of the grant and own or rent their home. You must have lived in Yukon for at least 12 months and live there at least 183 days a year, including at least 3 months between October and March. The amount depends on your income and where you live. Yukon has an online calculator, or call 867-667-5674 (toll-free in Yukon 1-800-661-0408, extension 5750).
  • Guaranteed Income Supplement: YSIS depends on it, so apply if you haven’t yet.
  • The Allowance: for people aged 60 to 64 whose spouse gets OAS and the GIS.
  • Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit: the new name for the GST/HST credit since July 2026. You get it by filing your taxes.
  • CPP retirement pension: if you ever worked in Canada, make sure you have applied.

Common questions

Do I need to apply for the Yukon Seniors Income Supplement?

No. Once you get the GIS in Yukon, the federal government tells Yukon, and YSIS starts. Keep filing your taxes every year.

When is YSIS paid each month?

Yukon doesn’t publish a fixed day. It is paid by Yukon, not in your OAS deposit, so it may arrive on a different day. Call 867-667-5674 to check.

How is my YSIS amount calculated?

The Government of Canada works it out from your GIS amount, up to $323.26 a month (as listed May 2026). Yukon doesn’t publish the formula.

Do I have to report YSIS on my taxes?

Yes, if you get more than $500 in a calendar year. You will get a T5007 slip, and you include that amount as income on your return.
