A deposit labelled “Canada FPT” is a payment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). FPT stands for federal-provincial-territorial. In most cases it is your quarterly Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, the new name for the GST/HST credit, sometimes with a provincial credit added. It is real, tax-free and yours to keep.
The next payment is Monday, October 5, 2026. You can see every benefit date on our payment calendar.

The GST/HST credit has a new name
In July 2026, the GST/HST credit was replaced by the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB). The base amounts went up by 25%, and that increase stays in place from 2026 to 2031. The rules for who qualifies did not change.
The January 5 and April 2, 2026 payments were still called the GST/HST credit. The July 3 payment was the first under the new name. There was also a one-time top-up on June 5, 2026, worth half of your 2025–26 GST/HST credit. That is why some people saw an extra deposit in June.
Next payment dates
| Payment | Date |
|---|---|
| Next CGEB payment | Monday, October 5, 2026 |
| Following payment | Around January 5, 2027 |
| After that | Around April 5, 2027 |
The CRA pays on the 5th of January, April, July and October. When the 5th falls on a weekend or holiday, it pays on the last business day before. If your amount is less than $50 a quarter, you get the whole year’s amount in one payment in July instead.
How much you can get
These are the maximums for July 2026 to June 2027, based on your 2025 tax return:
| Who | Maximum per year |
|---|---|
| Single person | $679 |
| Married or common-law couple | $890 |
| Each child under 19 | $234 |
The amount is split into four payments. It goes down as family income goes up. The CRA benefits calculator will estimate yours. The CGEB is tax-free.
Provincial credits paid with it
In some provinces, the CRA adds a provincial credit to the same quarterly deposit. You don’t apply separately: filing your taxes is enough.
| Province | Credit | Maximum per year |
|---|---|---|
| New Brunswick | HST credit | $300 each for you and your spouse, $100 per child |
| Newfoundland and Labrador | Income supplement | $520 single, $589 with a spouse, plus $231 per child |
| Newfoundland and Labrador | Seniors’ benefit (65 or older) | $1,882 for a single senior |
| Nova Scotia | Affordable living tax credit | $255 per individual or couple, plus $60 per child |
| Prince Edward Island | Sales tax credit | $310, plus $55 for a spouse or eligible dependant |
| Saskatchewan | Low-income tax credit | $460 each for you and your spouse, $181 per child (up to 2 children) |
The Ontario sales tax credit is not in this deposit. It’s part of the Ontario Trillium Benefit, which comes separately around the 10th. Provincial child benefits, such as the Ontario Child Benefit, come with the Canada Child Benefit. Quebec’s solidarity tax credit is paid by Revenu Québec.
Why it stopped, is late or changed
- You or your spouse didn’t file a 2025 tax return. The CGEB is worked out again every July from last year’s return.
- Your income went up, your family changed, or you moved and didn’t update the CRA.
- Your amount was under $50 a quarter, so it all came in July.
- The Canada Carbon Rebate ended. The last one was paid in April 2025, so a quarterly deposit you used to get may be gone.
If a payment doesn’t arrive, wait 10 business days after the payment date. Then check CRA My Account or call the CRA at 1-800-387-1193.
Is it a scam?
A real Canada FPT deposit comes straight from the government into the bank account the CRA has on file. Be careful of anyone who contacts you about it. The CRA never sends refunds or benefits by e-transfer or text message. It never asks you to pay with gift cards, prepaid cards or crypto, and it never charges a fee to talk to an agent. If someone says you were overpaid and must send money back, hang up and call the CRA yourself.
Keep it coming: file every year
You don’t apply for the CGEB. You get it by filing your tax return every year, even if you had no income. If you have a spouse or partner, they need to file too. If you file late, you still get the money, but it arrives later.
Volunteers at free tax clinics will do your return if you have a modest income and simple taxes.

Common questions
What does Canada FPT mean on my bank statement?
It stands for federal-provincial-territorial. It’s a CRA payment, usually the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, sometimes with a provincial credit added.
Is Canada FPT the same as the GST credit?
Usually, yes. The GST/HST credit was renamed the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit in July 2026, and it’s the most common payment behind this label.
Why did I get a Canada FPT deposit in June 2026?
That was most likely the one-time top-up paid on June 5, 2026. It was worth half of your 2025–26 GST/HST credit.
Do I have to pay tax on it?
No. The CGEB and the provincial credits paid with it are tax-free.
When is the next Canada FPT payment?
October 5, 2026. After that, expect it around January 5, 2027.
