#1 Welcome Bonus
The Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard is an invite-only card. Similar to the concept of the Amex Centurion card, otherwise known as the Amex Black card, you can’t apply for the Triangle World Mastercard.
As a no-fee invitation-only card, this card doesn't offer a welcome bonus. It also doesn't come with

#2 Rewards Program
The Triangle World Mastercard is a part of the Triangle Rewards loyalty program, which is a well-known name in Canada with one of the oldest in-store loyalty programs (remember Canadian Tire Money?).
Canadian Tire Money—otherwise known as CTM—is usable at any Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, L’Entrepôt du Hockey and participating Mark’s/L’Équipeur and Sports Experts stores.
As a Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard cardholder, you'll be automatically enrolled in the Triangle Rewards program so you can collect CTM.
The value of CTM depends on the purchase type – the highest earn rate is 4%, which you earn (pre-tax amount) at Canadian Tire and participating stores. Here is a breakdown of how much CTM you earn for your purchase:
|Average Sales Tax in Canada
|Total Cost Including Tax
|Real % of CTM Earned
If your purchase costs $100, you'll earn $4 in CTM. And with an average sales tax of 13% in Canada, the total purchase comes to $113, which means the $4 in CTM you earn is 3.53% of the total purchase paid.
Even though the real earn rate is 3.53%, not 4%, it's still nearly a 10x step up from the 0.4% cashback Canadian Tire used to offer.
CTM never expires: it stays with you, even if you don't use it, for as long as you like. Your CTM can't be transferred to other rewards programs, and it can only be redeemed at Canadian Tire stores.
You can also donate your CTM to charities or community groups if you choose. Considering that it has no annual fee, the perks and benefits from its rewards program make this not only one of the best Canadian Tire triangle cards but one of the best cards in Canada.

#3 Earn Rates
|CTM Earned Per Dollar Spent
|Food & Drinks
|7¢ CTM/liter for premium fuels
5¢ CTM/liter for other fuel grades
at Gas+/Essence+ locations and participating Husky stations
On whole, the earn rates are less than average for Triangle World Mastercard in the regular categories mentioned above at just 1% CTM.
However, the earn rate is highest (4%) at Canadian Tire, Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, L’Entrepôt du Hockey and participating Mark’s/L’Équipeur and Sports Experts stores.
If you are an active Canadian Tire shopper, you might enjoy the Triangle World Mastercard.
Another great way to earn CTM with this card is by filling up your tank at Gas+/Essence+ and participating Husky gas stations.

This is an upgrade feature from the Triangle Mastercard to Triangle World Mastercard. If you are a premium fuel user, you would receive 7¢/litre in CTM and for all other types of fuel, you would receive 5¢/litre in CTM.
Considering that the average price of premium 95-octane fuel in Canada during the first trimester of 2020 was around $1.25/litre, this earn rate works up to an astounding average 5.6%. Lower-grade fuel averaged around $0.9/litre, so the 5¢ you get back are also equal to an average of 5.6%.
This level of return on fuel is almost unparalleled, so if you use your car frequently or like to travel by road, this card is a Godsend.

#4 Travel Benefits
The Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard has poor travel benefits where it has almost nothing to offer for even the occasional traveller unless you are looking to earn 1% CTM for purchases outside Canadian Tire and participating stores.

|Airport Lounge Access

#5 Annual Benefits vs. Annual Fee
There is no annual fee for the Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard. However, you can only be entitled to this card on an invite-only basis.
Now this might be confusing if you are reading up on Triangle Mastercard and Triangle World Elite Mastercard and wondering why is it Triangle World Mastercard is invitation-only while you can apply for Triangle World Elite Mastercard which comes with better features and benefits in comparison.
The Triangle World Mastercard is meant to be a slightly enhanced card from Triangle Mastercard in terms of:
- Accelerated cash back on premium fuels at Gas+ and Husky stations,
- Purchase security,
- Extended warranty
- Car rental insurance
- Priority queuing
As such, it doesn't offer free roadside assistance like other more premium cards, and Canadian Tire requires you to meet a minimum spending requirement to qualify for an invitation to upgrade to Triangle World Mastercard.
If you do qualify, you will receive a call or email from Canadian Tire on the upgrade from Triangle Mastercard to Triangle World Mastercard.
Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard Annual Benefits vs. Annual Fee Score: 5/10
#6 Referral Program
Being an invite-only credit card, Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard does not have a referral program.

#7 Travel Insurance
|Emergency Medical Insurance (Out of province/country)
|Travel Accident Insurance
|Trip Cancelation Insurance
|Trip Interruption Insurance
|Baggage Delay & Flight Delay Insurance
|Lost or Stolen Baggage Insurance
|Hotel/Motel Burglary Insurance
|Car Rental Theft and Damage Insurance
The Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard is clearly not targeted for travel benefits considering the poor selection given. It only has Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Waiver Insurance claimable up to $65,000. To qualify for this insurance benefit,
- you have to use your Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard to charge the car rental fully and decline the rental agency’s damage waiver.
- the car rental has to be in your name even if the rental has been charged to your Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard
- the car rental period must not exceed 31 consecutive days.
While the travel insurance may not be as comprehensive, the car rental theft and damage insurance is pretty handy, especially when this insurance type usually costs $20 / day for the car rental.
However, the coverage sum is not as extensive as other cards, such as Amex Cobalt which has car rental insurance which covers up to $85,000 for 48 consecutive days.

#8 Purchase Coverage
For the frequent yet cautious shopper, the great news about Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard is it has good purchase coverage. It has both Purchase Security and Extended Warranty coverage.
If you pay for your purchases fully with your card, your purchase will be protected for ninety (90) days from the date of purchase against loss, damage or theft anywhere in the world.

In terms of the extended warranty coverage, you can receive double the period of repair services otherwise provided by the Original Manufacturer’s Warranty to a maximum of one (1) full year. This is valid without any registration required as long as the original warranty is 5 years or less and valid in Canada or the United States.
Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard Purchase Coverage Score: 10/10
#9 Foreign Transaction Fees
This card charges a pretty standard Foreign Transaction fee, but the Foreign Cash Advance fee is somewhat lower than its nearest competitors.
The 2.5% charged on all foreign transactions is almost an industry standard, with very few cards charging more, and very few charging less. This is in line with what most credit cards charge.
Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard Foreign Transaction Fees Score: 5/10
#10 Customer Service & Online Experience
Canadian Tire has customer service accessibility via phone and email contact only. This credit card customer service is available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard Customer Service & Online Experience Score: 5/10
Alternatives To The Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard
The card is not for frequent travellers or those expecting great cash back for daily/monthly essentials such as groceries, bill payments etc. You can consider the below cards as possible alternatives.
#1 The Cobalt Card
The Triangle Mastercard is a great card, but the American Express Cobalt Card is even better. That’s partly because the Cobalt Card offers a 50,000 MR points welcome bonus—a welcome offer worth $1,000-$1,500—and partly due to the card’s other features and benefits.
For example, you’ll earn 1 MR point—which we value at 2-3 cents apiece—per dollar spent on all card purchases. This means you’re essentially getting a 2-3% discount on everything you buy, or $20-30 in rewards for every $1,000 you spend.
Compare that with the 0.8% in CTM you get from the Triangle Mastercard, and the Cobalt Card is giving you 2-4x the rewards. So if you’re looking for a low-fee card that gives you more than the Triangle Mastercard, the American Express Cobalt Card is the card for you.
#2 The Marriott Bonvoy Card
The Marriott Bonvoy Card is another great option for anyone interested in the Triangle Mastercard. It comes with a welcome bonus of up to 70,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (worth $1,400 – $2,100), and earns 5 points for every $1 spent on eligible travel & gas purchases for your first 3 months of Cardmembership.
On top of that, the Marriott Bonvoy Card comes with 1 free night at a luxury hotel every year plus complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status to take your travels to new heights. Add on the robust travel insurance that comes with the card and it’s clear that the Marriott Bonvoy Card offers far greater value than the Triangle Mastercard.
Who Should Get The Canadian Tire Triangle World Mastercard?
This is a good upgrade to get (from the Canadian Tire Triangle Mastercard) to enjoy better purchase security, better returns on premium fuel use, and to enjoy car rental insurance coverage with no annual fee.
However, if you are looking for a card with strong earn rates for groceries or comprehensive travel insurance and travel benefits, the other cards recommended above will do a much better job with that.
