#2 Excellent Service

Since Outdoorsy is a marketplace and you’re renting from other real people like you, every interaction is reviewed on the platform. This means that RV owners are incentivized to offer excellent service all the way through—starting before the pick-up, and extending beyond the drop-off—to ensure they receive a great review.

Outdoorsy Customer Reviews

Clearly, that model of accountability is working. Outdoorsy RV owners have received more than 50,000 5-star reviews—with an average rating of 4.88/5—and have facilitated more than 650,000 vacation nights since 2015.

#3 Ultimate Booking Convenience

Most RV rental companies require you to call or email them to get several quotes on several different models of RV. This leads to a lengthy back-and-forth of them answering your questions, which you need to do all over again with every company.

Outdoorsy, on the other hand, simplifies the booking process by putting all the information you need on the booking page. This allows you to make a booking decision far more quickly, saving you hours of time.

Many RVs on Outdoorsy can be booked instantly, streamlining the booking process to make things easier for you. Many rentals also come with flexible cancelation policies that allow you to receive a full refund if you cancel within 48 hours of booking or at least 14 days before you depart.

#4 Get Your RV Delivered

If you’re a city dweller, you may not have a vehicle capable of towing the RV you want to rent, or you may simply be uncomfortable driving such a large vehicle on the roads. If either of those are the case, you can arrange with your Outdoorsy owner to have your RV delivered directly to where you want to use it. Going camping but can’t be bothered to pick it up? No problem—give the owner your campsite, arrange a drop-off time, and they’ll deliver it to you fully ready to use.

Outdoorsy’s customer support is some of the best in the industry. Their representatives are friendly and easy to reach, and they genuinely want to help you solve whatever issue you have. There’s no complex phone tree to navigate through when you call them, either, so you get connected to their customer support reps quickly.

You can call Outdoorsy at (1) 877-723-7232 or email them at [email protected].

#6 Roadside Assistance

Outdoorsy offers 24/7 Roadside Assistance to protect you against any emergencies—from flat tires to dead batteries to locking yourself out—that come up during your trip. They’ve partnered with Coach-Net to provide that emergency assistance, and it comes standard with all Outdoorsy protection packages. This table shows what Outdoorsy roadside assistance covers.

How To Use Outdoorsy

If you’re comfortable booking on Airbnb, you’ll be comfortable booking on Outdoorsy, because the process is largely the same:

  • First, choose the location where you need the RV and the vehicle type you’re looking for (a Class A, B or C, camper van, travel trailer, or fifth wheel, for example). If certain amenities like a pet-friendly RV or a barbecue are important to you, you can filter by price and amenities to find those that meet your requirements.
  • Next, send a booking request to one or more owners. Owners have 24 hours to respond, though many will respond more quickly. Once you’ve chosen the RV for you, book it to secure your dates.
  • When you pick up the RV, the owner will give you a quick tour and teach you about its intricacies, such as how to get the slides out, level the RV, start the generator, and rig it for boondocking. The owner is paid 24 hours after pick-up, so if something is seriously amiss, you can raise an issue with Outdoorsy before they’re paid.
  • When you drop off the RV, the owner will do a quick inspection to make sure everything is fine and there’s no damage. After just a few minutes, you’ll be on your way.

Outdoorsy For Owners

If you own an RV that you’d like to rent out to others as a source of income, becoming an Outdoorsy owner is ideal for you. Every Outdoorsy renter is DMV checked and verified, which means your RV will always be in good hands.

It’s free to list your RV with Outdoorsy, and when you receive a booking, you’ll be paid 24 hours after your renter departs. Owners pay a 20% service fee on every booking, which covers the insurance policy, roadside assistance, customer support, and more.

When you sign up as an owner with Outdoorsy, you’ll be asked to answer a few questions about your RV:

  • Basic info: Vehicle type, manufacturer, model, year of manufacture, length, etc.
  • Amenities: Sleeping details, kitchen appliances, temperature control, bathroom fixtures, hookups, awning, electronics, laundry, power generation, accessibility, etc.
  • Rules: Pets, tailgating, festivals, smoking, etc.

Once you’ve taken 5 minutes to answer those questions, you’ll create your listing, choose your pricing, and set your calendar. These can always be changed later on, so you don’t need to worry about creating the “perfect” listing right away.

Benefits Of Being An Outdoorsy Owner

There are several key benefits of renting out your RV with Outdoorsy:

  • Earn more income: Outdoorsy offers RV owners a unique opportunity to generate income from their RV when they’re not using it. And since you have full control over the dates you make your RV available and how much you charge, you’re in the driver’s seat when it comes to how much you’ll earn.
  • Offset purchase and maintenance costs: RVs can be expensive to buy and maintain, so having your RV generate revenue for you is a great way to make the expense affordable. As you’ll see in the table below, it’s not unreasonable to earn tens of thousands of dollars from your RV each year and still be able to use it for your own travels.
  • Avoid storage fees: Many RV owners have to pay to store their RV when they’re not using it. If you rent out your RV rather than storing it somewhere, though, you’re turning that expense into income.
  • Insurance: Outdoorsy’s insurance covers both renters and owners, making the rental process extremely simple and smooth. If a renter happens to damage your RV, you can rest easy knowing Outdoorsy’s insurance will take care of it.
  • Customer support: Outdoorsy’s customer support is there for you every step of the way, handling the nitty gritty details like DMV background checks for renters, roadside assistance, and plenty of other things that would normally be up to you.
  • Safe & secure: All Outdoorsy renters have been DMV checked and verified, which means you can trust renters to be safe, responsible drivers with no past driving offenses on their record.

Estimated Earnings As An Outdoorsy Owner

Outdoorsy has an earnings estimator that predicts how much you’ll earn based on the type of vehicle you’re listing. Those numbers are shown in the Weekly Earnings column.

To show you what you can earn in a year, I’ve taken the Weekly Earnings column and multiplied it by 26, assuming you’ll rent out your RV for 26 weeks of the year and have it available for yourself for the other 26 weeks. As you can see, it’s completely reasonable to earn $20,000 – $30,000 per year from your RV with Outdoorsy.

Outdoorsy FAQs

Do I need a special license to drive an RV?

No. You only need a special license if you’re driving something longer than 45 feet (14 meters) or heavier than 26,000 lbs (11,800 kg), which is bigger than nearly all Class A motorhomes. You can rent and legally drive virtually every RV available on Outdoorsy with a standard driver’s license.

Which RV is easiest to drive?

Class B motorhomes are the easiest to drive. Class B motorhomes are shorter and lighter than Class A or Class C motorhomes, weighing 4,000 – 9,000 lbs on average. Class B are also very easy to maneuver, given that they’re generally about 17-23 feet in length, around the same size as a standard pick-up truck.

Where does Outdoorsy operate?

Outdoorsy’s primary markets are the US and Canada, though it also operates in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and all over Europe. There are even a few Outdoorsy listings in far-flung locales like Mauritius, South Korea, and the Philippines, though there isn’t nearly the level of coverage there that there is in Outdoorsy’s larger markets.

Does it cost extra for mileage?

Some RVs come with unlimited mileage, while others are free up to a certain point (eg. 500 miles) and then cost more over those set miles. The mileage policy is always clearly stated on the booking page.

What is Outdoorsy’s cancelation policy?

Outdoorsy owners can choose between three different cancelation policies:

  • Flexible: Renters can cancel 5 days before the pick-up date and get refunded 100% of the total costs minus service fees. If you choose to cancel within 5 days of your RV trip, you can fully refund 75% of the reservation costs.
  • Moderate: Renters can cancel 7 days before the pick-up date and get refunded 75% of the total costs minus service fees. If you choose to cancel within 7 days of your RV trip, you can fully refund 50% of the reservation costs.
  • Strict: Renters can cancel 14 days before the pick-up date and get refunded 50% of the total costs minus service fees. Renters can cancel within 14 days on your RV trip, but the reservation will be non-refundable.
